Safety Representative

Under Health & Safety legislation, employers must consult with employees regarding safety, health and welfare at work. Employees can nominate one of their colleagues as a Safety Representative to consult with management on safety issues.  The point of the consultation is to identify risks and prevent accidents and it is particularly important when changes are taking place, for example when a new work process or substance is being introduced.

This 1 day course is designed to explain the role and functions of the Safety Representative , and after completing the course you should have a good overview of the relevant legislation, be able to carry out a safety inspection and understand how to investigate, report and prevent workplace accidents.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Health and Safety Legislation
  • Role of the representative and safety committee members in the consultation process
  • Communication skills
  • Hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
  • Safety statements
  • Carrying out safety inspections
  • Accident investigation

This one day course is delivered through instructor led presentation as well as open and interactive discussions. The participants complete a short 20 question exam at the end of the course.  Each student receives a Safety Representative certificate on successful completion.
